The reporting officer was able to find the vehicle pulling out of the parking lot at the Hess Gas Station on North Main Street. The officer followed the vehicle and allegedly observed it cross the double yellow line twice on Centre Street before the car was pulled over. The driver was interviewed and agreed to a field sobriety test. The officer later released the driver reporting that the person did not appear to be impaired. A passenger in the car though, Engelhardt, had an active warrant out of Concord District Court for operating after suspension or revocation, with $725 cash to settle. He was arrested and released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail. Engelhardt is due in court on Oct. 28.
  • Kyle Pratt, 21, of Laconia, was arrested at 3 p.m. on Sept. 29, and charged with operating an off-highway recreational vehicle (OHRV) with no license/training and OHVR owner/operator responsibilities. Officers were called to the area of Mountain Road and Sewalls Falls Road for a report of people riding OHRVs on private property. Upon arrival, they encountered two adults and two juveniles who had been riding in a field. The officers reported no damage to the land and confirmed with the owner of the property that the riders were trespassing. The juveniles told officers that they were given permission to ride on the property by a neighbor. The officers informed them that there had gone beyond the property line and were now trespassing, according to the report. The officers spoke to a grandmother of one of the juveniles who directed the juveniles to come home. During interaction with the officers, one of the adults, Pratt, allegedly gave a false name. After dispatch couldn’t find the person, he allegedly gave his correct name, and reportedly told officers he was scared because his license was under suspension for DWI. He was arrested based on two state laws requiring anyone riding an OHRV to give a correct name and address when asked by police as well as not having a suspended license while operating an OHRV. Pratt was released on $4,000 personal recognizance bail and is due in court on Nov. 18.

An officer parked near Spruce and West streets was watching the various interactions of a number of men standing in the street and sitting in a parked vehicle. After a few minutes, the men dispersed but one allegedly was walking in the street, heading to the driver’s side of the officer’s cruiser. The officer exited the vehicle to speak with the man, who he thought was Barreto, and later confirmed it was. Barreto, the officer alleged, smelled like alcohol, and had been arrested on a DWI charge the week before, and was out on bail. The bail required that he not consume alcohol. The officer questioned what Barreto and the other men were doing, with Barreto reportedly confirming that the others left because they saw the police cruiser but that he didn’t care that the police were there. When asked if he had been drinking, Barreto allegedly kept asking why he couldn’t just walk in the street and that it didn’t matter if he was drinking or not. Barreto refused a portable breathalyzer test and was arrested. During processing, Barreto allegedly continued to talk in a one-sided conversation but not to the officer, according to the report. At one point, Barreto allegedly said the officer smelled alcohol because he rubbed it on his feet in an attempt to cure his athlete’s foot. Dispatch reported that Beck had a bench warrant out of Franklin District Court on a simple assault charge and he was taken into custody. During process, police secured $597 in cash that Beck had in his pocket. Beck claimed he had $700. The officer re-counted the money in front of him and it came out to $597, according to the report. Other officers spoke with the son who alleged that she hit him in the face and the back of the head with a brush or a curling iron. Christie later denied the accusation, saying she didn’t own those items. An officer later observed a flat hair iron on the couch in a living room, and a sergeant suggested searching search the area.
