Concord Farmers, Steeplegate Mall Donate Food

Market, mall combine efforts to assist the Capital Region Food Program.

At the Concord Farmers’ Market on Sept. 11, a large donation of food and goods was made to the Capital Region Food Program – stacks of cans and boxes, toiletries, and fresh fruits and vegetables, all in an effort to help others.

Pearl Aznive, coordinator for the Steeplegate Mall, and Wayne Hall, president of the Concord Farmers’ Market, said, as part of the rental arrangement between the two organizations, it was agreed that half of the money paid to the mall would be used to donate food to the program

Aznive said that stores at the mall also made donations to the effort while farmers offered baskets of fresh goods to the program on Wednesday.

This was the first year of the market at the mall and Hall admitted that it was a little slow, although he believed that into the future, business would grow. He said mid-week market allowed the farmers to reach different buyers and made fresh food available for people who couldn't make it to Saturday's market on Capitol Street.

The Heights market will run through Oct. 30. Hours are 3 to 6 p.m.
