Man Faces Charges After Perley Street Fight

Concord Police: Demands for beer money caused the altercation; Joshua Israel Abbott later urinated in the cell.

A local man with a history of assaults and underage alcohol consumption is in trouble with the law again. Joshua Israel Abbott, 20, of Concord, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. on April 1, and charged with unlawful possession of alcohol, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property. Officers were called to White Street to investigate a past tense fight on the evening of March 31, meeting with the victim there while other officers were sent to Perley Street to interview more individuals, including Abbott.

In the process of the investigations, officers came to the conclusion that some altercation happened between Abbott and another individual. Abbott, who is under 21, was alleged to have had internal possession of alcohol and was immediately taken into custody.

“While at police headquarters, Mr. Abbott because uncooperative to the point that the basic booking procedures could not be completed,” the reporting officer alleged.

Things went downhill when Abbott asked to use the restroom but when given the opportunity, all he “did was run his mouth, which distracted him from using the bathroom.” The officer told him to go or he would be placed back in his cell, and he allegedly acted belligerent and ran his mouth again.

Abbott allegedly wouldn’t move so the officer had to physically take a hold of him to escort him back to the cell. When this was done, he allegedly resisted, pulling away from the officer. The officer reportedly had to get a firmer grip on him and put him in a wrist lock to get him out of the bathroom.

While processing his property, the officer allegedly found two credit cards in his wallet that were not in his name. Another officer reported that the fight initially started after Abbott allegedly went into the other man’s room and demanded more money for beer. When the man refused, “the altercation erupted."

The officer noted, “Apparently at some point, Mr. Abbott must have taken (the victim’s) wallet from (the room) without permission," while confirming that he didn’t have permission to use the man’s credit cards.

At this point in the booking process, Abbott reportedly stated he had to go to the bathroom again and threatened to urinate on the floor of the cell. The officer reportedly told him not to but later, Abbott did just that, urinating in the corner of the cell, and he was then transported directly to the Merrimack County House of Corrections.

He was arraigned on April 1.
