Thousands Still Without Power in Concord, Capital Region

Blustery winds, downed trees, limbs, and wires cause problems all day.

An Artic cold front swinging into the region wreaked havoc on Concord and the capital region on Nov. 24, blasting communities with blustery winds, downed trees and wires, and resulting traffic problems due to the weather mayhem.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory at 3 p.m., warning of wind speeds between 31 and 39 mph, and gusts as high as 57 mph.

The wind advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25.

Concord Police as well as fire and rescue teams responded to a number of downed trees and limbs throughout the area, as well as accidents and some minor criminal activities around the city.

New Hampshire State Police had to deal with a major problem a little past 3:15 p.m. when a Comcast cable wire came down just north of the Portsmouth Street bridge between NHTI and Northeast Delta Dental. The downed line caused traffic to be re-routed at Exit 16 in the northern part of the city on the southbound side and Exit 15E on the northbound highway.

At just before 5 p.m., the highway reopened.

As of 5 p.m., more than 3,500 Unitil customers in Concord and the capital region were without power. All of their customers in Allenstown and Epsom are without power. More than 70 percent of Chichester and a third of Canterbury is without power.

Public Service of New Hampshire is reporting that tens of thousands of its customers were without power around the state.

PSNH outages included nearly all of Andover and Dunbarton, and half of Northwood and a third of Epsom.

Other towns in the area, including Hopkinton and Hooksett, are also reporting power outages.
