According to Lt. Timothy O'Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit for the department, a man entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money and cigarettes. He later fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and a carton of Marlboros.

State troopers brought in a K-9 unit to see if a dog could get a scent trail in the neighborhood. A witness reported seeing the suspect flee in a northeast direction on Summer Street and then south onto High Street before disappearing. The dog hit a few locations but no suspects were apprehended.

There have been a number of robberies in the Penacook area in recent weeks including a robbery at the Dunkin’ Donuts and the Cumberland Farms, both on Fisherville Road, a mere third of a mile from each other. Sam’s is about two miles away from the previous robberies. The Asian Taste Restaurant was also robbed on Aug. 8 by a man bearing resemblance to the alleged perp of the Sam's robbery. That restaurant is right down the street.
