Concord Teens Flee from Police

Juan Batista and Anthony McMann allegedly tried to evade police during chase through the North End.

Two local teens are in trouble after running away from a home on Penacook Street while officers were trying to serve them warrants.

Juan Batista, 19, of Concord, was arrested at 5:35 p.m. on Feb. 27, on warrants and a resisting arrest and detention charge. Anthony Wayne McMann, 20, of Concord, was arrested at 5:32 p.m. on Feb. 27, on a criminal liability for conduct of another charge.

According to a Concord Police arrest report, officers were called to Penacook Street attempting to make a warrant service to Anthony McMann on charges from the Walmart on Loudon Road in January.

A relative answered the door and let police in to speak with McMann but later, the officers heard the front door chain swinging. The reporting officer looked outside and saw two men “running east on Penacook Street” toward the Santander Bank location parking lot at North State Street.

Other officers were called to the area to try and find the two men while the original officers also pursued them.

Another officer reportedly found the two walking east on Horseshoe Pond toward Constitution Avenue. The officer ordered them to stop but they allegedly ignored the order and ran.

Another officer approached the area from I-393 east while the two men were running toward The Friendly Kitchen. The officer parked the cruiser and allegedly saw McMann through the snow-covered field toward the interstate.

“McMann turned and looked at me,” the officer alleged, “(and) turned and continued to run up the embankment.”

Another officer took custody of him on I-393.

The reporting officer saw another man, later identified as Batista, just north of where she was standing. He reportedly turned from the officer only to run into another officer, and was taken into custody.

Batista’s warrants were for theft by deception from Walmart on Loudon Road from Jan. 28, a violation of a court order out of Sixth Circuit District Division Court from Jan. 21, and a nonappearance in court charge from Jan. 29, on a resisting arrest or detention charge also from Sixth Circuit. He needed $2,000 cash to settle the court warrants.

Batista refused bail and transported to Merrimack County House of Corrections. Both were arraigned on Feb. 28.
