Clinton Patten Lived on the Heights for 63 Years

Long-time Concord resident passed away last week.

Clinton Wayne Patten, born March 9, 1931, passed away on Jan. 17. 2014. He was the son of Harold & Florence (Tenney) Patten Scott, born East Andover. He   attended Andover and Franklin High Schools and lived on the Concord Heights for over 63 years; living at 50 East Sugar Ball Road, then 34 Pembroke Road since May 1976.

He worked for State of NH Highway Dept, Brezner Tannery, Concord Lumber (20 years), Bank of New Hampshire (now known as TD Bank) (retired currier); most recently part-time for Concord Union School District as a bus monitor and special needs van driver.  

He was married to Maxrene (Dale) Patten for 58 years prior to her passing in 2008; he leaves his son & daughter in law, Past City Councilor and State Rep. Richard (Dick) and Debra Fournier Patten; his daughter Miss Debra Patten, Concord; his sister in law, Mrs. Irene Spaulding, Concord; his brother and sister in law, Dennis  & Martha Patten, Salisbury; sister in law, Katherine Patten, Salisbury; adopted grandchildren, Juan Aceros, Jacksonville, Florida; Christopher Hillsgrove, Exeter; Jennifer Boulay, Troy; James Lord, Jr, Florida; Tyler Martel, Concord;  his great grandchildren, Patrick, Kayla, Katie Locke, Pembroke; Evan, Chantel Nicholas, Brayden, Shelby Boulay, Troy; Chayton O’Brien. Loudon;  nieces & nephews, Miss Priscilla Drew, Epsom; Mrs. Beverly Laurendeau, Deerfield; Wayne Hoyt, Candia; Harold Patten, Salisbury; Donald Patten, Salisbury; Ronald Patten, Norfolk, VA; Mrs. Irene Hawkins, Warwick RI; Mrs.Evangeline Maurice, Plainfield, CT, Harold Drew Jr, Providence, RI; Mrs. Dorothy Anderson, San Jose, CA; Mrs, Patricia Haskins, Texas, Edward Spaulding, Bow, NH; Mrs. Brenda Spaulding Pulido, Pembroke; Mrs.Linda Gilbert, Laconia, NH. Cousins,  including Robert Patten, Bristol; Kenneth Patten, Alexandria; Albro Patten, Concord; Gerald Patten, Salem; George Patten JR, Kittery, ME. He leaves several grand nephews and nieces. He also leaves close friend Mrs.Janice Boynton, Dunbarton; Mrs. Geraldine Marquis Harrington, Concord; John Lorden, Webster, Mrs. Veronica Fournier, Concord.

He was predeceased in addition to his wife, Maxrene; daughter, Sandra Lee; his parents Harold & Florence Patten; brother Clement Patten; sisters, Thelma Patten and Evelyn Hoyt; He was a 45 year member and Past Master of Concord Grange #322; member of Merrimack County Pomona Grange, NH State Grange, and National Grange; He served as a member of the State Grange Membership Committee and Past Director for the NH State Grange Agriculture Committee; a former member of the Concord Lodge of Elks. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Concord; served on the Concord Christmas Parade Committee for 40 years helping his son whenever needed; also on the Concord Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration.

He loved his summer camp that he built with his wife, Maxrene in York Maine on Scituate Pond, road was named after the family;  always loved gardening at his home, 34 Pembroke Road, he would take numerous vegetables grown in his garden to neighbors on Pembroke Road, Grant Street, and Greeley Street. He always enjoyed helping others when needed. He would never turn anyone away if he could help.  He loved decorating his home for Halloween, Easter, and Christmas. He appreciated so much the Concord Fire Department did for the family from 1966 to 1976 to get water for his family to do cooking, washing, etc, when the family well went dry at East Sugar Ball Road. He enjoyed his country music especially Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson; He also enjoyed watching Boston Red Sox baseball; his favorite college football team was the Nebraska Cornhuskers, although the Michigan Wolverines were a close second.   He enjoyed eating meals at Windmill Restaurant and Veano’s Italian Kitchen, Pembroke seeing the staff. He and his late wife enjoyed square dancing at Fortune’s Barn, Bradford or Daniel Webster Grange Hall.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Rev. Raymond Ball celebrating; Burial to follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery. 

Flowers are welcome, however donations may be sent to Concord Grange c/o Mrs. Yvonne Crocker, Treasurer, 33 Christian Avenue for the 100th Anniversary that he was going to help plan;  or the Concord Fire Department, Retired Firefighters Fund, Horseshoe Lane, Concord.
