Scott Brown Surrenders to Cheap Trick

Should politicos consider this the first New Hampshire stop on his way to the Republican nomination in 2016 or just something to scratch off the bucket list?

Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, R-MA, was at the Hampton Beach Club Casino Ballroom on Aug. 25, with thousands of others, to see Cheap Trick and got the chance to jump on stage for a quick, sloppy rendition of one of the band’s most popular songs, “Surrender.”

Brown strapped on a guitar and awkwardly fudged through most of the song, missing most of the verse chords but jumping in with guitarist Rick Neilsen for backup vocals for the chorus and clearly hitting the right notes during the pre-verse break sections of the classic anthem to about baby boomer parents trying to relate to the World War II generation, while listening to KISS records and smoking grass.

Brown Tweeted a picture of himself and his wife backstage posing with one of Neilsen’s guitars around 8 p.m. last night before the show started, saying, “Sick guitar.”

Just before midnight, he Tweeted again, “I am a blessed man. I fulfilled one of my bucket list items and got to get up on stage and played #Surrender with #Cheaptrick tonight. Wow.”

The song was posted on YouTube.com late last night

The Brown family is no stranger to “the music business.” Daughter Ayla Brown appeared on “American Idol” back in 2006 and regularly performs concerts around New England.
