NRA Makes $25K Ad Buy to Counter Anti-Ayotte Bloomberg Ads

Ads will air for at least a week on WMUR-TV.

The National Rifle Association has made a television advertising purchase supporting U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH.

The organization reportedly made the advertising buy with WMUR-TV this week, spending $25,000, to counter what they feel is an inaccurate ad being aired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition.

In the ad, the NRA stated that Ayotte stood with prosecutors and law enforcement officials by voting for “a bipartisan plan to make background checks more effective,” as well as more resources to prosecute gun crimes and reform of the mental health system.

The ad closes by saying that Ayotte stands with police and New Hampshire values.

In recent weeks, Ayotte has taken a number of hits for voting against the Toomey-Manchin background check expansion. She recently submitted an op-ed to Patch and other news outlets explaining her votes and saying that the ads being aired by the group were not true. Gun control and gun safety advocates also crashed a number of Ayotte’s town hall meetings, including one that featured the daughter of a Sandy Hook Newtown shooting victim.
