No Heat Relief at the Concord Library

HVAC system has been down since July 14.

If you were attempting to seek relief from the heat in the normally cool and spacious Concord Public Library this week, you were out of luck.

Sometime between July 14, and July 15, the library’s HVAC system died.

City maintenance workers attempted to fix it this week but the part that was needed had to be special ordered.

All this week, as the city entered into its first official heat wave of 2013, temperatures in the building were not that much lower than the temps outside. Temps easily reached the 90s, according to librarians, who could be seen visibly sweating it out, serving customers, checking out books, and helping with reference materials, in their always pleasant and cheerful manner, despite the uncomfortable temps.

One librarian joked on July 19, that it might be a little cooler to hang out in the basement … although the snack machines emit hot air around them, another one noted, so that might not be such a cool idea.

Library Director Patricia Immen said officials were hoping that the HVAC system would be up and running again early next week.
