Concord Gets Contested Races

Last minute filings mean voters will have choices in November.

A flurry of candidates filing to run in the last couple of days has guaranteed that voters will have choices in both September and November down their ballot line.

In the newly configured Ward 1 District seat, Democrat Scott Welch, a frequent letter writer and commentator, will face off against state Rep. , D-Penacook, who is also an at-large Concord City Councilor.

Also filing to run in the new Ward 5/Hopkinton District is incumbent state Rep. , D-Hopkinton.

Up on Ward 8, on the Heights, Republican activist , who recently assisted Ron Paul's primary effort here, has filed to run against state Rep. , D-Concord, who is also the Ward 8 City Councilor.

Also over in Ward 10, Republican Alvin Jones changed his filing from running for the Ward 10 District to running in the new Ward 8, 9, and 10, floterial district. He will face off against , a Democrat and former state representative and city councilor, for the single seat.

Party activists can now forward potential candidates via nomination to fill out any vacancies for potential seats.

Also filing to challenge incumbent state Sen. , D-Concord, is Concord Republican Lydia Dube Harman, a local real estate agent with Harman Real Estate LLC.
