VIDEO: Fire Damages Condos

Firefighters extinguish flames at Morning Star Apartments on the Concord Heights.

Concord Fire and Rescue teams were called to a condo fire on Loudon Road at a little before 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 28.

The fire was in the basement unit in a building with 24-units in the northeast part of the complex. About 20 residents were evacuated during the fire, according to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus.

According to Andrus, the Heights Fire Station team, which is located down the street from the complex, was on another call and other units responded about five minutes into the call. First responders found “heavy fire blowing out of a rear window” in the rear of the complex.

A second alarm was requested a few minutes later, according to Andrus, with mutual aid coming into to assist from Allenstown, Boscawen, Bow, Chichester, Henniker, Hooksett, Hopkinton, Loudon, Manchester, and Pembroke. Those other teams also provided coverage for Concord’s stations during the incident, he said.

“Firefighters attacked the fire and searched the rest of the building for trapped occupants,” Andrus said. “The fire was declared under control at 3:54 p.m. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.”

The Red Cross also assisted with relocation efforts for the displaced tenants. Some residents were allowed to retrieve belongings later in the evening.

The apartments are part of a 172-unit development. The buildings were constructed between 1969 and 1984, according to Keating Realty.
