Student Arrested on Multiple Charges After Incident at Concord High

Jasmine Curtis, according to police, was allegedly drinking in class and screaming obscenities at officers, administration.

A Concord High School student is facing numerous charges after an alleged incident last month

Jasmine Curtis, 17, of Concord, was arrested at 12:04 p.m. on May 21, and charged with two counts of simple assault (personal weapons), disorderly conduct, attempt to commit simple assault, unlawful possession of alcohol, two counts of resisting arrest or detention, and default or breach of bail conditions.

While speaking to students inside a classroom at the school, the school resource officer was approached by an assistant who alleged that Curtis was in a cooking class, drinking alcohol, in the form of an orange colored liquid in a water bottle, according to an arrest report. The officer, an assistant principal, and the assistant went to the classroom and attempted to speak to Curtis but she allegedly refused to leave the classroom and stated she wasn’t doing anything wrong.

A number of students were in the courtyard while Curtis allegedly continued to scream at the officers. Curtis, the officer alleged, continued to scream and wouldn’t stop, even after the threat of arrest. Another officer met the SRO outside and both attempted to take control of Curtis, who “became enraged and extremely violent,” the officer alleged, kicking both officers.

Eventually, she was cuffed but allegedly continued to struggle, “donkey kicking” the officers. The officers reportedly held her down on the ground, in an attempt to get her to calm down.

“During the struggle with Jasmine, I could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath,” the officer alleged.

Curtis was then put into a cruiser by one officer as another stayed at the school to piece together what happened.

During transport, one officer alleged, Curtis refused to comply, pulling off her seatbelt. At the station, the watch commander advised that Curtis was out on bail from April 29, and in a diversion program, which required no use of alcohol. Curtis’ bottle reportedly tested positive for alcohol. When asked if she would cooperate during the booking process, Curtis allegedly said, No, so she was kept in handcuffs. She allegedly refused to cooperate during the booking process and allegedly said she hoped all the officers’ families would die, according to the report.

After several attempts at booking, Curtis was transported directly the Merrimack County House of Correction.

While Curtis was at headquarters, the SRO spoke to the student who tipped administrators off to Curtis possibly drinking. The student alleged that Curtis was “acting out of the ordinary and laughing uncontrollably.” When asked about what she was drinking, Curtis allegedly told the other student it was orange juice. After a trip to the bathroom, Curtis continued “acting weird,” according to the student and she allegedly replied that her juice was “really good.”

Curtis was arraigned on May 22.

Back on April 28, Curtis was arrested at around 9:45 p.m. at the Irving Station on Fisherville Road and charged with simple assault (personal weapons) and resisting arrest or detention.

Officers were called to the station to talk to Curtis and her father. Police had just released Curtis to her father earlier in the evening.

When the officers arrived, Curtis was reportedly sitting on the ground and would not speak with them. The officer asked Curtis to stand up and she allegedly refused. The officer stepped away to unlock the car and at that point, Curtis allegedly started to pull away and used her right foot to try and step away from him. The officer gripped onto her arm and attempted to put her into handcuffs. Curtis allegedly used her foot to kick the side of the cruiser causing a large scuff on the black part of the car and the passenger door. It was later determined to be no permanent damage.

Curtis continued to fight and struggle with the officers and allegedly spit on one of the officer’s face.

During interaction with the officers, the father stated that his daughter was not acting right and suspected that she was under the influence of alcohol. He stopped for gas at the gas station and she allegedly exited the vehicle and tried to run away. The father alleged that Curtis had told him that she had smoked weed, drank, and taken pills, and he wanted her transported to the hospital for evaluation, the officer reported.
