State Police Capture Man After Incident in Salisbury

Scribner Road resident allegedly shot woman in his house; fled the scene.

A nearly four-hour long manhunt between a Salisbury man and the New Hampshire State Police ended a little before 10 p.m. on Dec. 27, after the man was captured at his home.

State Police, along with police personnel from Webster, Concord, and Warner, as well as fire and rescue teams, were called to Scribner Road, on the eastern side of Mount Kearsarge for a reported shooting incident a little before 5 p.m.

Witnesses reported hearing about five shots in the area before an ambulance arrived to assist one person who was reportedly injured from a gunshot wound, according to scanner reports. A male resident reportedly fled the home into the woods between Mill and Warner Roads after the incident.

Police set up command posts around the search area and spent the better part of three hours attempting to locate the man, following snowmobile trails, footprints in the snow, and looking for other clues. A number of Patch readers who live in the area posted notes on Facebook saying police were not letting them get to their homes.

At one point during the manhunt, police found square markings in the snow, believed to be formed by an ammunition box the man had with him when he left the home.

Cellphone signal problems often hampered the search with calls to the man going straight to voicemail and police officers unable to get strong enough signals to communicate, according to police.

A little before 9 p.m., the man started reaching out to his girlfriend and family members, believing that helicopters that were circling the area searching for him would soon find him. State Police reported over the air that in the calls he said he was “all done” and that the calls were short.

Around 9:30 p.m., the command pulled police out of the woods after the man reportedly told his girlfriend he would be attempting to turning himself in.

A few minutes later, police took him into custody at the home on Scribner Road.
