POLICE LOG: Man Arrested Allegedly Slipping Saw Blades Down His Pants

The following information was supplied by the Concord Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Editor’s Note: Due to more extensive narratives in the Concord Police arrest reports, it’s taking a little be longer to transcribe entries and that is why the report dates vary so widely.

  • Casey J. Merrill, 38, of Manchester, was arrested at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 11, on a theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. An officer was sent to Lowe's on Fort Eddy Road for a shoplifter in custody. The loss prevention officer alleged that Merrill put several saw blades down his pants. The employee also alleged that Merrill put an extension cord under his coat and left the store without paying for the items. Merrill was reportedly in the store with another man who left prior to the situation. Merrill allegedly told the officer that his friend had taken the car and left. Merrill alleged stated that he met the man at church and did not know him that well. The items were a seven inch diameter saw blade, eight inch ceramic tile blades, and a 50-foot extension cord, all valued at around $220. Merrill was released on $2,000 personal recognizance bail and was arraigned on Feb. 11.
  • Michael Richard Grover, 24, of Manchester, was arrested at 2:50 p.m. on Jan. 11, on a theft by unauthorized taking or transfer charge from the Walmart on Loudon Road. Police allege that Grover stole 46-inch Sanyo HD-TV. He turned himself into police at the headquarters on Green Street. Grover was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and was arraigned on Feb. 11.
  • Kevin Chagnon, 19, of Pittsfield, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 12, on a theft charge. An officer was dispatched to Sears on Loudon Road for a shoplifter being cooperative. The officer spoke to the loss prevention employee and looked at video of the alleged theft of a leather wallet. Chagnon reportedly did not have identification but was arrested, booked, and processed. Chagnon was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and was arraigned on Feb. 11.
  • Michael W. Butterworth, 21, of Franklin, was arrested at 1:58 p.m. on Jan. 12, on a bench warrant. An officer was sent to Concord Hospital to take custody of a patient who was being arrested on a warrant out of Laconia District Court for nonappearance in court on Dec. 28, 2012, with $400 cash to settle. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to a nurse who warned that Butterworth was allegedly “combative” and came into the hospital without any boots on. The officer noted that Butterworth had dried blood on his face and a number of other injuries. His clothes were also torn. Butterworth reportedly said he sustained a fall in Pittsfield earlier in the day. He was held without bail and arraigned on Jen. 14.
  • Daniel J. Whitehouse, 46, Concord, was arrested at 9:34 p.m. on Jan. 12, on a simple assault (personal weapons) charge. Officers responded to Village Street for a report of a domestic dispute. According to dispatch, the woman at the home alleged that Whitehouse, her husband, had assaulted her and left the residence. An officer spoke to the woman and reported that she appeared to be intoxicated and was unable to keep balanced while standing. She alleged that Whitehouse had grabbed her and threw items around the living room. She reportedly stated that both had been drinking during the day. A few moments later, Whitehouse appeared at the apartment door and the two reportedly started yelling at each other. Officers separated the two and the officer spoke with Whitehouse who reportedly acknowledged that the two were fighting and that he allegedly grabbed her because he was “sick of her.” Whitehouse, the officer noted, also seemed to be intoxicated and was immediately arrested. Whitehouse refused bail and was arraigned on Jan. 14.
  • Samuel J. Piper, 19, of Henniker, was arrested at 9:05 p.m. on Jan. 12, on four counts of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer from Nov. 21, Nov. 25, Nov. 26, and Nov. 29, 2012, from Target on D’Amante Drive. Police allege that he stole wireless speakers, an mp3 cassette recorder, a wireless router, a headset, skin cleaner, fragrances, Skull Candy gear, and other items all valued at around $1,200. An officer served the charges to Piper at the Merrimack County House of Correction where he was being held on other charges. Piper reportedly asked the officer if he thought a judge would let him on bail because he was under going drug rehabilitation and the officer said he would need to speak to the judge about that. “(Piper) told me he had been stealing to pay for drugs and he wanted to get help,” the officer reported. Piper allegedly told the officer that he did not remember a previous interaction with the officer who had arrested him before. The officer reported, as evidence, receipts from Game Stop at the Steeplegate Mall for some of the items that were pawned. Piper was arraigned on Jan. 14.
  • Zachary M. Belair, 17, of Concord, was taken into custody at 2:25 a.m. on Jan. 25, and issued a summons for unlawful possession of alcohol and possession and use of tobacco products by minors.
  • Justin Belair, 20, of Concord, was taken into custody on 2:36 a.m. on Jan. 25, and later issued a summons on an unlawful possession of alcohol charge. Officers were called to White Park for a report of four people on the ice on the pond as well as in the park. Upon arrival, the officer didn’t see anyone. However, the lights were on at the park. Another officer reported seeing people at the intersection of Washington and Lyndon streets with clothing that was wet and muddy. The officer spoke to the individuals and Zachary Belair, a Concord High School student, reportedly stated that his friend had broken up with his girlfriend and they were there to cheer him up. The officer alleged that his eyes were “glassy and bloodshot” and noted that he was holding a Sunkist soda bottle but the liquid inside the bottle was brown and did not look like orange soda. Zachary Belair reportedly stated that it was cream soda in the bottle but when smelling the drink, it was clearly alcohol, the officer alleged. “Zachary appeared to be dishonest with almost every question I asked,” the officer alleged. Later, Zachary Belair was arrested. Another officer spoke with Justin Belair at the same time and he was also arrested. Both were arraigned on March 4.
  • Ryan Curtis Eaton, 20, a homeless man now located in Concord, was arrested at 10:05 a.m. on Feb. 6, on a possession of controlled drugs charge. Officers were called to a report of suspicious persons parked in a gray Subaru at the Circle K/Irving on Loudon Road. The officers pulled into the lot and reportedly saw two males in a 2001 Saturn station wagon parked towards the west end of the parking lot facing the building. The officer reportedly made eye contact with the operator, Eaton, and waved at him. Eaton reportedly rolled down the driver’s side window to speak with the officer and as he was rolling down the window, the officer reportedly noticed that he was holding a blue Bic lighter in one hand and alleged that a strong order of burning marijuana was coming from the car. The officer asked Eaton to step out of the vehicle and explained to him that he could smell the marijuana. The officer alleged that was a glass pipe in the car, that was still warm to the touch and had a small amount of marijuana in the bowl. Eaton was arrested and later released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail. He was arraigned on March 11.
  • Catherine Marie Craig, 50, of Concord, received a summons at 1:30 p.m. on March 16, for possession of alcoholic beverage on public property, a 375 ml bottle of Zhenka vodka, while in Bicentennial Square. An officer alleged that while standing at the pay phone near Margarita’s, Craig was in possession of the vodka and taking sips from it in public. The officer issued her the summons and she’s due in court on April 29.
  • Casey Lee Welcome, 19, of Concord, was arrested at 2:12 p.m. on March 19, on a default or breach of bail conditions charge. While on South Main Street, an officer reportedly saw Welcome exit a building on South Main Street and enter a vehicle. The officer believed that there was an outstanding warrant for the default charge. The officer confirmed the warrant and requested another unit for assistance. The officers caught up to the vehicle at the Hess Station on Water Street, with one alleging that Welcome was “lying down in the front seat in an effort to conceal herself from my line of sight.” She was taken into custody and held on $2,000 cash bail. She was arraigned on March 20.
  • Anthony J. Resavage, 57, of Pittsfield, was arrested at 1 p.m. on March 21, on a theft of lost or mislaid property charge from Dec. 7, 2012, at the Walmart on Loudon Road. The alleged victim in the case was an elderly woman from Washington. The items reportedly involved in the case included a fanny pack, a checkbook, and $350 in cash. Resavage reportedly turned himself into police and was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail. He’s due in court on April 29.
  • Raymond Leslie Locke, 66, of Concord, was arrested at 1:46 p.m. on March 21, and charged with change of registration; duty to inform, from Sept. 11, 2012, and duty to report, from Oct. 1, 2012. Locke was arrested on warrants while on Hall Street. During the booking process, Locke complained of breathing problems and reportedly had problems responding to the recording officer. Bow Fire and Rescue transported Locke to Concord Hospital for medical evaluation. He was later released on $6,000 personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned on April 29.
