Nashua Man Faces Criminal Trespass Charge at St. Peter’s Church

A Nashua man was arrested on Jan. 8, for refusing to leave St. Peter’s Church in the North End after being requested to by both church officials and police.

Robert J. Carr, 34, of Nashua, was arrested at 11:05 a.m. and charged with criminal trespass.

According to a Concord Police arrest report, an officer was sent to St. Peter’s Church on North State Street for a report of an unwanted guest. The subject, later identified as Carr, was asked several times to leave by church officials but refused to do so.

According to the officer, church officials did not want Carr arrested but needed him to leave the area because there were upcoming meetings scheduled and he wouldn’t budge. The officer reported that he accompanied a church official into an office to speak with Carr, in an effort to get him to leave without being arrested.

“Mr. Carr would not leave,” the officer wrote, “(He) did not acknowledge me.”

Another officer arrived and Carr allegedly “clasped his hands together so we could not handcuff him without using force to separate his hands,” the officer wrote.

After some effort, Carr was eventually cuffed. But then, he allegedly would not stand up and had to be lifted from a chair and walked out of the building.

After being placed in the back of the cruiser, the officer reportedly attempted to remove Carr’s rosary beads, for safe keeping, and Carr allegedly bit into the chain breaking it. Eventually, Carr let go of the chain, according to the officer.

Carr refused bail and was arraigned on Jan. 9. 

Previously, Carr has been arrested for prowling in the South End last summer and was also arrested in Nashua in October 2012 for non-appearance in court.
