UPDATE: Concord Man Drowns in the Merrimack River

Man reportedly gets caught in the current.

The , Marine Patrol division, has confirmed that a man drowned earlier today in the near the .

According to Officer Seth Alie, of the division, the recovered , 49, of Concord, from the river at 6:13 p.m.

Alie reported that at about 5:40 p.m., fire and rescue teams were called to the scene for a report of a possible drowning.

“Timothy Gee had been swimming with a friend when they were caught in the current and swept towards the bridge abutment,” Alie said in a statement, “at which time the friend was able to make it to shore and hail a passerby to call 9-1-1.”

According to a press statement, the , fire department, New Hampshire Fish and Game, and New Hampshire State Police-Marine Patrol all responded to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation pending results of the autopsy, according to Alie.

Gee had a number of run-ins with the law, according to arrest reports. On May 25, he was arrested on Storrs Street on a warrant. On May 15, he was arrested at Walmart on a possession of a controlled drug charge.

At one time, , near the on Loudon Road. In 2011, he was arrested twice, one for simple assault and resisting arrest or detention, and another time on two bench warrants.

It was a very emotional scene at the tonight as and teams pulled a man from the water a little past 6 p.m.

Lt. , the watch commander at Concord Police headquarters, could not confirm whether the man was dead or alive, saying that officers were still “assessing it right now.” Thomas confirmed that it was a man who was in the water.

“The investigation is ongoing right now,” Thomas said.

According to sketchy reports from witnesses, a homeless man had fallen under the water and another homeless man attempted to bring him to shore but was unable to.

“I kept trying to get him but I just couldn’t bring him,” the man said, with tears in his eyes. “I was holding onto him and he had his arms around my neck and I was trying to bring him in … I couldn’t hold onto him and I’m a good swimmer too ...”

During the process of the investigation, a few women came over from the Statehouse and when they found out the name of the man, began crying and screaming.

“He was a good guy,” one woman said while crying. “I just saw him today.”

Another woman said that the man was always looking out for the kids who were in the area and described him as a good person.
