Hassan: 'We've Got Some More Work to Do'

Governor highlights achievements, defends Turkey trade mission.

Surrounded by hundreds of supporters, Gov. Maggie Hassan, D-Exeter, launched her re-election campaign on June 12, signing up to run at the Secretary of State's Office while highlighting a list of 18 months worth of achievements.

Hassan readily admitted that while she had worked to balance the budget, expand tax credits to create jobs, and hold the line on higher education expenses, there was still a lot of work to do.

“We’ve addressed priorities that were critical to Granite State families and businesses,” she said. “But we’ve got some more work to do.”

Hassan said she was looking forward to traveling around the state and making the case that she deserved another two years in the corner office.

During a short question and answer opportunity, Hassan was asked about whether or not Medicaid expansion would be ready in July and she said officials were tweaking the timeline. She also confirmed that she would be looking at expanded gambling if she’s re-elected. Hassan also defended a trade mission to Turkey, noting that the country was the 12th largest trading partner with New Hampshire and many businesses had already spent money to sign up for the trade mission before her moratorium on travel and spending.

There were a handful of protesters at the signing not unlike other signups this week. There were also a few scuffles outside of the office between trackers trying to gain recording access to the governor and her supporters, who were blocking the ability of trackers to record her.
