The Barley House Reopens

Concord Fire Department called to eatery for minor kitchen equipment problem.

The Barley House Restaurant on North Main Street in Concord reopened for business at 4 p.m. on Nov. 8, after a minor kitchen equipment problem that required visitation and clearance from firefighters and the gas company.

According to Brian Shea, the owner of the popular downtown eatery, a morning employee smelled plastic burning and called the fire department to check it out. The firefighters, Shea said, found plastic melting on kitchen equipment that could have caused bigger problems had it not been caught in time.

“Thumbs up to my staff,” Shea said, for being alert to the problem and getting it checked out.

Liberty Utilities came in and gave the restaurant a quick sweep to ensure that everything was OK, which it was, he said in an email, and the restaurant prepared for an afternoon reopening, just in time for the bar and dinner crowds.

This weekend, The Barley House has also reintroduced its SNOB Burger, in time for the film festival that runs through Sunday at Red River Theatres. The burger features all natural beef, gouda cheese, a fried egg, tomato, prosciutto, and roasted garlic tarragon aioli on a toasted English muffin.
