The sun is setting over the tall pines outside the Bektash Temple on Pembroke Road, the Ward 8 polling location, and the candidates standing outside are getting a little chilly. But the banter and the camaraderie is friendly. As of just before 1:30 p.m., 185 people had cast ballots in this competitive ward. It's a little slow, according to veterans of the polling location. But they assume it will pick up in the late afternoon.
