Last Community Beams Installed [VIDEO]

Concord elementary school construction project reaches another milestone.

The community beams at the McAuliffe and Mill Brook elementary schools were recently installed in place marking another construction milestone for the Concord School District consolidation projects.

The largely ceremonial event is usually only set aside for workers involved in the construction process. However, the district decided to open up a two-week window for residents to sign the beams before installation. During the months of June and July, residents signed the beams before being installed on the three schools.

Matt Cashman, the director of facilities and planning for the Concord School District, said the basic framework of the steel structures were just about finished. Construction workers are now focused on the “detailing” steel work of the buildings and concentrating on sealing the buildings in time for the fall so the interior work can be completed during the winter, according to Cashman.

In about a year from now, the bulk of the work will be complete at all three schools.

The schools will be open for the 2012-2013 school year.
