Mark Lennon is a founder and principal of the Institution Recycling Network, which manages reuse and recycling for colleges and universities, hospitals, private firms, and other organizations in the Northeast and throughout the U.S.  IRN handles more than 75 different commodities, including materials as diverse as computers, fluorescent lamps, paper, construction/demolition wastes, and surplus property.  IRN is the most experienced recycler of construction wastes in the country, with more than 100 projects completed, and achieving reuse+recycling rates as high as 99.6%.

IRN also specializes in facilitating the reuse of surplus property for clients nationwide.  In 2010 IRN managed over 200 surplus property projects, resulting in the distribution of nearly five million pounds of scholastic, administrative, and medical furnishings and supplies for disaster relief and economic development in the U.S. and abroad.

Before founding IRN, Mark was recycling coordinator and head of planning and community assistance for the State of New Hampshire.  He was responsible for outreach and networking, promoting commercial sector recycling, market development, and developing the State’s first statewide plan to achieve a legislated 40% recycling target.  In earlier work, Mark was a consultant to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other public and private clients in solid and hazardous waste and energy issues.  He graduated from Dartmouth College and has a Master’s degree in Ecosystems Research from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
