More Nice Weather, Book Events, and Preparing for Halloween

Here are your Monday Essentials for Concord; everything you need to know about the week ahead.

  • More Nice Fall Weather. The National Weather Service is predicting a pretty nice weather week. Expect partly sunny skies, with highs in the mid-60s on Monday. Overnight lows will be in the low 40s. On Tuesday, rain is possible after noontime with clouds during the rest of the day. Temps will be in the mid-60s. The sun returns on Wednesday, with highs in the low 50s, but showers are possible in the evening. More sun is expected on Thursday but temps will be chilly, with highs in the high 40s, with overnight temperatures dropping down to freezing. Friday will also be chilly and the weekend is going to be nice but cold too.
  • Lead Testing. Free toy and blood lead testing will be held at the Statehouse lawn from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday. The governor will also read a proclamation at 10:30 a.m., as part of Lead Awareness Week.
  • YMCA Meeting. The Concord Family YMCA’s annual meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, honoring volunteers, members, and donors.
  • Energy Workshop. Button Up NH will hold a home energy savings workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Bow Baker Free Library on South Street. Learn tips to save money and prepare your home for the winter.
  • Learn About Domestic Violence. Guest speaker Casey Gwinn will speak at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the New Hampshire Audubon Society on Silk Farm Road, about this important issue.
  • Candidates Night. The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Concord City Council candidates night, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Grappone Conference Center.
  • Who Stole the American Dream? Author and Pulitzer Prize winning writer Hedrick Smith talks about his new book, “Who Stole the American Dream,” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Gibson's Bookstore
  • Helping the Friends. It’s Doughraiser time at Uno’s. Dine there from 11 a.m. on and bring the voucher attached to this link and 20 percent of your bill will go to the Friends of Forgotten Children.
  • Beat the Lunch Box Blues. That’s the latest book by food editor J.M. Hirsch and he’ll be at Gibson’s Bookstore at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to talk about lunches, offering cooking demonstrations and tips for leftovers.
  • Quiet Yoga. Sharing Yoga offers all levels of quiet yoga classes at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Classes are $12.
  • Murder Mystery Dinner. The Bow Mills Players presents Hi-Jinks on the High Seas Murder Mystery Play and Dinner at 6 p.m. at the Bow Mills United Methodist Church. Tickest are $15; $7 for children between 6 and 12. Reservations are required.
  • Haunted Friday. Halloween Howl is going on in Downtown Concord on Friday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with all kinds of things going on, including a free Haunted House at Kydstop at the Y, the Ghost Dinner Band playing in Bicentennial Square, and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” playing at Red River Theatres at 9 p.m.
