A Focus on Health and Wine this Week

Here are your Monday Essentials for the city of Concord.

  • Another Cold Week … Weather forecasters are calling for another cold weather week but not a lot of storms. Expect some snow this morning, turning to rain, but clearing in the afternoon, with highs in the mid-30s. Overnight lows will drop down to the single digits. On Tuesday, expect sunny skies with highs in the teens and below zero temps in the evening. Similar weather can be expected on Wednesday. By Thursday, things will warm up a bit with daytime temps in the mid-20s. Expect similar weather on Friday. The weekend is also looking good.
  • OutFITters Thrift Store Facelift. The Families In Transition store on South Main Street is being spruced up today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and your help is needed. Help usher in exciting changes to the store. 
  • One Bowl at a Time. Is it time to change your relationship with food and self? Concord Hospital’s Center for Health Promotion has a workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Monday focused on some of the issues. Cost: $39.
  • The Healing Art of Music. Heather Oberheim will present this workshop at the Concord Community Music School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. 
  • Tar Sands Exposed. This exhibition and discussion at 7 p.m. on Monday at St. Paul’s School offers a firsthand visual experience of what is happening in Alberta, Canada, while mining the tar sands. Another discussion will be held at UNH on Tuesday. 
  • Love, Lust & Desire. The annual group show at McGowan Fine Art opens at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 31. 
  • Wine Time. At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Manchester and Portsmouth enjoy an exclusive evening with wine experts and tastings. Tickets are $35. 
  • State of the Union Tuesday. President Barack Obama will give the annual State of the Union Address on Tuesday at 9 p.m. Stay tuned to Patch on Tuesday for reaction from New Hampshire political observers on both sides of the aisle.
  • The Beech Hill School Open House. Stop by the school in Hopkinton at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to learn about the school and its programs. 
  • Hemingway for Governor? So far, no Republican candidates have publicly announced a run for governor in 2014. But rumor has it that Andrew Hemingway may be thinking about challenging Democrat Maggie Hassan. A Draft Andrew Hemingway for Governor page has even popped up on Facebook. On Thursday, Jan. 30, Hemingway will host a "Solutions First Rally" at the Yard Restaurant in Manchester, a possible sign that he may be gearing up for a run.
  • More Wine. The annual Easter Seals Winter Wine Spectacular will take place at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are $65-$125.
  • Have a Problem with Schedules? Design Your Days is a new workshop scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday at the Center for Health Promotion to help you with your scheduling. Cost: $59.
  • Beethoven Sonatas. The Concord Community Music School features Gregg Pauley on piano at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at playing The 32 Piano Sonatas of Beethoven. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for students and seniors.
