The government that never ceases to function.

‘Nothing can ever cease to be what God ordains it to be.’ I said this prayer out loud the other night as the clock ticked to midnight and the US government shut down.

In the morning light I refused to look for man-made causes as to what could have been done, or should have been done, or needs to be done to prevent the stalemate that has led to the halt of countless government functions. This is truly ‘shadow-boxing’ with no winner.

Instead, I asked the Father-Mother God, the divine Mind that governs all creation, what spiritual facts – spiritual laws actually – supersede and ultimately correct human failings? What can I know spiritually about my fellow citizens that transcends political positions and emotional reactions that have gridlocked the function of the US government?

The Bible in all its lessons from tribal wars and personal trials points to two laws as the basis for all governance: 1) There is only one God, one lawmaker, and 2) Love your neighbor as yourself.

These two laws aren’t ‘choices’ or ‘nice-to-haves in a perfect world.’ They are commands or demands for today that thankfully include the power to enforce them! When these statutes are resolutely in consciousness, they act like Teflon – anything unlike these facts can’t stick. Even better, ideas and qualities that relate to these spiritual facts attract each other, outshine and disperse the shadows, and illuminate positive action.

How might these spiritual facts and their powerful effects relate to human government? Here are a few ideas to start you thinking:

Expansion

There is no contraction, no standstill in the unlimited source and growth of divine Mind’s goodness and blessing for humanity; this resource is expressed in abundant creativity and the flow of right ideas that are inexhaustible, productive, and inclusive.

Opportunity

The world – governments, communities, citizens, neighbors – exists at the present standpoint of never-ending opportunity, and is enabled to see right ideas and act upon them! This is not a future goal, it is a present promise. There is no thievery with winners and losers; there is no competition; there are no missed opportunities; there is no lack of opportunity for any segment of humanity in the universe of Mind.

Orderly Administration

Divine Mind constantly functions. In this divine operation, there are no up-down or good-bad or stop-start cycles in governing; there is no reaction or inaction, no confusion, no delay, no lack or limitation. There is only the omni-action of right-thinking and right-doing with the highest purpose in one’s heart: to acknowledge God as the lawmaker and to fulfill this law by loving and doing good to one’s neighbor.

Cooperation  

The desire to co-operate – co-share, co-care – lives in the divine nature of mankind. The ability to listen with humility and respect, to see what is right with each other, is inherent in each individual nature. Whether it is a marriage, a business partnership, a neighborhood of homeowners, or a government, it is all about getting to the heart of agreement. And when heart speaks to heart, with hope and expectation of good for all, there is true cooperation.

Courage

There is no fear or discouragement in doing right. There is no power in intimidation or reaction from wrong influences that oppose the law of God to love and do good to one’s neighbor. In fact, expressing the inherent courage to do right by following the Lawmaker gives one the only power there is.
