Tim Bauman for Ward 2 Councilor

My name is Tim Bauman and I am running for City Council in Ward 2.  I am a six-year resident of Penacook.  Many of you might recognize me from my neighborhood and park trail walks with my Brittany spaniel, Suzie.  I’m a "wave hello and strike up a conversation" type person.

Why am I running?

Sense of Duty:   I have grown fond of the character of Penacook and Concord and feel I have a responsibility to help maintain the quality of the community.

Abilities:  I have 25 years of professional experience with large operations in budgeting, capital expense planning, legal databases, and facility maintenance and security.  That background will enable me to quickly get up to speed on city operations and vote accordingly.

Fresh perspective:  I am impressed with the depth of knowledge, openness, helpfulness, and good intentions of those currently on the council.  That being said, several of them are or have been public employees, employees of publicly funded organizations or lobbyists.  I believe the council needs a more balanced perspective and my private-sector background provides just that.

While this is a non-partisan election, it is appropriate to share the philosophy that, along with your input, will guide my voting.  I consider myself “socially accepting and fiscally conservative.”  This means I would have sided with the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union, Occupy groups, the Free State Project and four current councilors against the purchase of the Bearcat armored vehicle by our police department.  I am concerned about the militarization of police forces and favor the department’s continued emphasis on community-oriented policing.   To help keep property taxes in check, I will likely vote against expenditures that go beyond the provision of core City services.

I am confident that those who have come to know me regard me as a good neighbor and worthy of being your councilor.
