Veteran Interrupted Presidential Debate

Andrew Vera's outburst at the debate inspired by boos of a gay soldier in previous debate.

Whose shouting interrupted the presidential debate at Dartmouth College?

Andrew Vera of Hanover.

Vera said he spoke up Tuesday night right after Rick Santorum finished speaking about restoring "American values."

"I said, 'Yeah, right, you say you want American Values back in the American Family, then where were you, when they booed the gay soldier during the last debate,'" Vera emailed in response to Patch questions. "Let's get real. As an Iraq Veteran, I think it's pitiful."

"As they pulled me out, I screamed, 'don't taze me, don't taze me."

He said he was cited for disorderly conduct and released.

"No regrets at all," Vera says. "I served in the US Navy, in support and defense of the constitution. It's a living document."

Vera, a Dartmouth College graduate, said he respects the law and that an act of civil disobedience was owing to his pride in serving in the military.

Vera has spoken out on veterans issues in the past. In 2008, his name surfaced in a couple of news stories as he and other veterans questioned Sen. John McCain and congressional leaders on veterans care.

no better yet, did the Republicans waterboard you? I have nothing against gay people I have a problem with schools teaching that is OK!
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:03 PM
the problem Mike is you can't have an intelligent debate.
Mike Hunt October 14, 2011 at 03:04 PM
You seem to have made a grand assumption that I belong to a specific demographic group when I have told you nothing about myself. This amuses me.
Mike Hunt October 14, 2011 at 03:05 PM
"I have nothing against gay people I have a problem with schools teaching that is OK!" Keep typing, moron. Keep digging your hole deeper. If you had 1 brain cell left, it probably died of lonliness.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:08 PM
See Mike the problem I have with Gays is that 1 acts like a man and the other a woman and I just don't get that. They Usually are very angry people despite you claim that we "torture" them. I find it the opposite many people that I now that are gay are treated very nice and respectful but you and I both know from knowing the gay community that there is a lot of issues with gay people but see you don't want to have That discussion. Yes go hide behind your "we hate gay" agenda
Mike Hunt October 14, 2011 at 03:08 PM
An intelligent debate requires 2 intelligent people. You have proven yourself unqualified. Keep typing and show the nice people how insane you are.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:09 PM
as you with me, so Are you gay?
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:11 PM
oh Mikey boy all you do is try and insult me, sorry not biting....
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:16 PM
see mike I post my comment about schools and you respond with an insult. Keep it up Mike GREAT RESPONSE! See here's the problem Mike, I may be wrong but your responses show your hatred and instead of debating me with an intelligent response you dig deeper into your hatred of self.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:17 PM
ANd therein lies the problem with debating the gay community, They just want to insult the person who challenges them.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:23 PM
Come on Mike PLEASe be a better man then me and articulate for me and the others here why homosexuality is ok? I am not asking if we should accept you as a person but why it ok for men and women to have sex with one another.
Mike Hunt October 14, 2011 at 03:30 PM
Joe @ 11:02am "I have nothing against gay people." Joe @ 11:08am "See Mike the problem I have with Gays is...." You can't even maintain the same thought for 10 minutes. Go and take you pill before you hurt yourself.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:32 PM
lol oh MIKEY my gay friend the issues u have!
Mike Hunt October 14, 2011 at 03:34 PM
Watch with amazement as JOE stumbles into the strange and confusing world of adult human sexuality! This is a place that he has no business entering, unequipped as he is to deal with ambiguity or free thought, and yet he cannot stay away.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:35 PM
Mike the lesson I have learned over the years in arguing with gays, liberals, leftists is that all they to is attack the messenger, never once will they answer a question especially if it involves a solution, it is a very good method because USUALLY the person ends up defending themselves, not here! You keep right on calling me names, attacking me maybe it is your therapy for the day! And I don't charge!
Mike Hunt October 14, 2011 at 03:43 PM
there's that assumption again. once a thought gets wedged in your pitiful little brain, it's really hard to get it out again, isn't it?
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:55 PM
Adult sexuality.... Hey Mike seems like your trolling for supporters here. Do you need that too? Affirmation? Always wanting affirmation that your lifestyle is ok.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 03:56 PM
"pitiful little brain" Mike running low on insults? come on Mikey u can do better.....

Platinumputter, what bothers me is not what the republicans didn't do, but what they did do. With the full support of most congressional republicans, Bush massively increased government spending both internationally and domestically, deficits skyrocketed, the anti-liberty DHS and TSA were created, the patriot act passed, the federal government stomped on local education (no child left behind), created massive new prescription drug entitlements, started numerous wars, etc. The federal government under Bush was the largest and most intrusive in history to that point. I agree with your opposition to Obama. He is anti-liberty. Just please don't pretend that washington Republicans have been pro-liberty. This is not an R vs D problem. It's more like an us vs. washington politicians/bureaucracies/lobbyists/corporatists problem. Someone who knows the political scene there once told me he could count on one hand the number of washington politicians that are honest -- who actually have principles more important to them than their own self-glorification, wealth, and power. Of those, half don't believe in liberty anyway - they're sincere socialists. I agree with his assessment.
-Paul- October 14, 2011 at 04:28 PM
And I didn't even mention the bailouts ...

Whoa, looks like I've stumbled on the 'crazy Conservatives' page. This is one thread you won't find on the left. That should say something to all of the right-wing folks. Taunting and bullying people, this is what you like? Is this what you stand for? You see this all the time with the red states, you see it with Gov. Perry and his hunting camp, you see it with the legislation and the rules out of fear and malice. The same people who discriminated against African-Americans during the civil rights movement are the same people who discriminate now. Fear and loathing is part of the human condition, you are going to get people that are like this, and they will be attracted to a political party. There's a reason for that. There's a reason the Conservatives attract people like that. Grow up. Love your fellow human beings.
Joe October 14, 2011 at 06:42 PM
So u "stumble" on this post, call us names and somehow that puts you above everyone else? Yeah ok mr liberal , thank God for Red states don't worry when the crap hits the fan we will be there for you too, it's the American way!
Platinumputter October 14, 2011 at 07:12 PM
DSR, You mistate the facts on the article that you note. Bush "downgraded" the charges against the black panthers to a civil misdemeanor. It was Obama and Holder that "dismissed" the civil charges against the black panthers. Barry and Eric decided to let these thugs go without any penalty whatsoever, even a simple misdemeanor. They could have given them a slap on the wrist and send a luke warm message that violating voters rights at the ballot box is unlawful, but they choose to let it go.
Platinumputter October 14, 2011 at 07:27 PM
Paul, In hindsight, I think most conservatives would agree that Bush turned out not to be the conservative that we thought he'd be when we elected him. But he also gave in to the democrats free spending ways, in part I believe, to get along with them thinking that in turn they would reciprocate and get some of his agenda passed. Bush really did try to get along with the democrats while he was in office and look where it got him...wingnuts on the left calling him all sorts of names and a bulls eye on the back of his head from the liberal media.
Platinumputter October 14, 2011 at 07:33 PM
Paul, One more thing...I do agree with your assessemnt that most politicians are looking out for themselves. But we have to deal with reality when it comes to politics and not nirvarna. And so in comparing the two parties and assessing which one will be the lesser of two evils if we look through your political prism, then I choose the republican party every time.

For the gays, their arse is the roof of the world, believing they came out of the same, & denying their own Conscience.Their talks are " Pagan Chants" , for whom their god is one who sits cross legged bellowing om om om & more om's , taking delusions for truth, as basis for arguments. Dirty rascals & a hardhearted lot ,whose Liberalism's arise from the dustbins of Time.
Paul Mercury November 09, 2011 at 05:56 PM
Just stumbled upon this older post, too. Quite a few unhinged people saying pretty ignorant, hateful, (and sometimes hilarious) stuff.
Paul Mercury November 09, 2011 at 05:59 PM
Joe, you are positively OBSESSED with homosexuality. I've counted approximately 37,987,623 posts from you about gays.
Paul Mercury November 09, 2011 at 06:04 PM
The reason the entire country hates Palin is because she's overexposed, has long run out her 15 minutes, and is clearly clearly, CLEARLY a camera loving media wh*re. She's like the Kardashians. Nobody likes them, either, for the same reason. She's just trying to make a fortune. Nothing more.
Paul Mercury November 09, 2011 at 07:12 PM
Abey, I'm conflicted. Part of me pities your tormented mind. Part of me wishes you had a reality TV show.
