McCotter a No-Show in Concord

UPDATED: Last minute change diverts presidential candidate from White Mountain coffee event.

Republican presidential candidate U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., was expected in Concord this morning but apparently made other plans.

According to an advanced itinerary sent to the media on Aug. 2, McCotter was scheduled to meet with patrons of the  on Pleasant Street at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 8. The candidate also scheduled a private meeting for 2 p.m. in an undisclosed location and a meeting with U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta, R-Manchester, and the Rochester 9-12 group for 6:30 p.m. in Rochester.

Monday’s events reportedly capped off a three-day swing through the state in Epping, Barrington, Milford, Newmarket, and Barnstead (a quick Google News search yielded no New Hampshire press stories about the weekend campaign swing).

However, according to staffers at White Mountain, not only did the candidate not show up, they had no idea he was coming, since they received no advance notice about the appearance. A staffer noted that “a number of people” had heard that McCotter would be at White Mountain and stopped by to meet him.

Emails to the campaign requesting information about a schedule change or other events in Concord were not returned today.

UPDATE: New Hampshire Campaign Director Chris Buck called earlier today and stated that due to a last minute change in travel plans, McCotter was unable to attend the previously scheduled Concord Coffee and Conversation event. The campaign is planning another trip to the state between Aug. 19 and Aug. 21, and hopes to make a stop in Concord at that time.
