Lambert Blasts Wolfeboro Police Commissioner Slur of Obama

NH Congressional hopeful: "Mr. Copeland's comments regarding President Obama are completely unacceptable and offensive."

A Wolfeboro Police Commissioner's use of a racial slur to describe President Obama is "outrageous and offensive," said former state Sen. Gary Lambert, R-Nashua, who is running for Congress in New Hampshire's 2nd District.

Robert Copeland used the "n word" in a reference to the president at a restaurant and, when confronted with it, refused to apologize for the remarks, according to WMUR-TV. Copeland is 82.

"Mr. Copeland's comments regarding President Obama are completely unacceptable and offensive," Lambert said in a statement. "Bigotry and racism such as this have no place in our society and certainly have no place in our political dialogue. I join many others in calling for Mr. Copeland's immediate resignation. If he refuses, I would urge Wolfeboro town leaders to remove Mr. Copeland from his post as soon as possible."

Copeland, after a meeting in Wolfeboro on May 15, remained truculent with the local media and had an angry exchange with a reporter for WMUR.
