Jon Huntsman Wins NEC College Convention Straw Poll

Former Utah governor gets 68% of the vote.

Former Utah Gov. has won the New England College 2012 College Convention straw poll here in Concord on Jan. 6.

According to the organizers, 424 Republican and Democratic ballots were cast by college and high schools attending from around the country.

On the GOP side, 287 ballots were cast with Huntsman receiving 196 votes, or more than 68 percent of the vote. On the Democratic ballot, 137 votes were cast, with President receiving 87 votes, or nearly 64 percent.

Huntsman, , , and other candidates attended the event. Some other campaigns sent surrogates.

Not all the votes for the other candidates were tabulated at press time, but organizers noted at the results announcement that U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, received a write-in vote. Tim Finn, a social studies teacher at John Stark Regional High School in Weare, received seven write-ins. John Stark was one of the high schools that brought students to the convention.
