Bragdon: No Conflict in LGC, Senate Roles

Senate President dismisses NHDP criticism over his new $180K job.

Senate President Peter Bragdon (R-Milford) dismissed New Hampshire Democratic Party criticism that his new job as executive director of the Local Government Center would be a conflict of interest.

Bragdon, in an interview in the Senate President's office Aug. 13, said the Democrats' attack shows a lack of understanding of the LGC and the New Hampshire Municipal Association, the latter now a separate entity with its own director.

Bragdon will be paid $180,000 in a one-year contract. He starts the job Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Bragdon said in the Patch interview that he did talk with Senate legal counsel before moving forward with the employment. If an issue arises with RSA 5B, such as an issue with municipal risk pools, he says he would recuse himself.
