All Kinds of Fun at the Concord Public Library This Summer

  • Paws for Pages - is designed to help kids improve their reading and communication skills. Come read to Lily or Sparkle (both are certified through Therapy Dogs International and are calm, gentle dogs who love people) on the following days at 3:30 p.m. in the Children’s Room:  July 3, 9, 17 & 23, Aug. 7, 13, 21 & 27, Sept. 4, 10, 18 & 24
    Family StoryTime - Join us for stories, fingerplays, songs and loads of other fun, all designed to strengthen your child’s reading or pre-reading skills!  All ages invited and groups are welcome on the following Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.: July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, Aug. 6, 13, 20 & 27, Sept. 3, 10, 17 & 24
    Toddler Tales - is designed for children 2 to 3 years of age and their parent or caregiver to prepare them to learn to read. Together you and your toddler will share stories, songs, finger rhymes and movement to stimulate your child’s mind and senses.  Join us on the following Mondays at 10:30 a.m.: Sept. 8, 15, 22 & 29
  • Lapsit - is designed for babies up to 24 months and their parent or caregiver to stimulate your baby’s mind and senses while laying a foundation for learning to read.  Join us on the following Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.:  Sept. 11, 18 and 25
  • Lego Club - A chance to create with other builders and make new friends.  Designed for grades K-8.  Join us on the following Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.:  July 10, August 14, September 11
  • Who Lives Where? A week-long drop-in activity on plants and animals running July 1, 2, 3 & 5
  • Movie - Wednesday, July 2 at 1 p.m., Rated PG, 88 minutes
  • Check for Prints! A week-long drop-in activity about your fingerprints.  Some art, some science! Running July 7 to 12
  • Forensic Science Program - Friday, July 11 at 1 p.m. - see back page for more information  
  • Marshmallow Madness - Tuesday, July 15 at 2 p.m. and repeated at the Penacook Branch on Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m. - Using simple machines, you will create a device for launching marshmallows.
  • Batman Day - Saturday, July 26 at 1 p.m. Celebrate Batman’s 75th Anniversary with us! There will be fun, giveaways, and a little Batman Science to boot. Dress as Batman or your favorite superhero if you wish!
  • Kitchen Science Fair - Tuesday, July 29 at 6 p.m. See what fascinating science goes on every day in the kitchen, taste some experiments!  Fun for the whole family.
  • Movie - Thursday, July 31 at 2 p.m. Rated PG, 89 minutes
  • Native American Drumming - Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m.  Learn about the science of sound as you try your hands at Native American Drumming!
  • Toe Jam Puppet Band - Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. Strap on your dancing shoes! The Toe Jam Puppet Band is coming to town to get you dancing and singing with the band. Original music + puppetry + crazy stuff = fun for the whole family.
    Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party “Wet & Wild” - Friday, Aug. 15 at 1:00 p.m. Join us as we wrap up the Summer Reading Program with refreshments, water activities, and Grand Prize awards for both the Children’s Program and the Teen Program. Event to be held on the Library lawn. We will move to the Library auditorium in case of bad weather.

  • Forensic Science Program - Friday, July 11 at 1 p.m. Concord Police Officer Ryan Howe will give a presentation about forensic science to an open audience...all ages are encouraged to attend.
  • Teen Advisory Group Meetings - Thursday, July 31 at Noon and Thursday, Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6 - 12 are welcome to join the Teen Advisory Group, which helps to plan teen events at the library!

Adult and Family

  • Drumming Workshop- Thursday, July 10 at 7 p.m. Lindsey and Grace Schust will give a demonstration/class on drumming.  Some drums will be available.
  • Whit Symmes Trio - Monday, July 14 at 7 p.m. (to be held in the auditorium if necessary due to inclement  weather) Join us for the sound of jazz as part of our Live Music on the Lawn Series at the library.  Dancing welcome!
  • Movie - Thursday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m., Rated PG-13, 125 minutes
  • The Art & Science of Homebrewing with Ed Ramshaw - Wednesday, July 30 at 7 p.m. Ed Ramshaw, president of Concord Homebrewers & founder & owner of Blue Line Draft Systems, will give an introductory talk and answer questions on home brewing.  He’ll have equipment on hand and will go over the steps from brew kettle to bottle.
  • NH Ukeladies - Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. (to be held in the auditorium if necessary due to inclement weather) Join us for the sound of ukuleles as part of our Live Music on the Lawn Series at the library.  Dancing welcome!
  • Movie - Thursday, Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m., Rated PG-13, 146 minutes
  • Agatha Christies Birthday Party - Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. Celebrate Dame Agatha Christie's birthday with cake. Pick up a trivia quiz before the event and win a chance to choose your favorite Christie film to be shown at the library in December. Come dressed as a favorite character or in period dress -- we'll award a prize for the best costume!
  • AMC-NH Partner Event - Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. In October of 2013, five New Englanders hiked to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Join NH AMC trip leader Ellen Ruggles as she shares photos, music, and memories of their 25 days of travel.
  • Movie - Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., NR, 108 minutes
  • FDO Training - Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. Join us for a free, public and informative workshop on grant research for a non-profit organization by Gary McCool.
  • Short and Sweet Discussion Group - Monday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. Short on time? Each month Short & Sweet will discuss a short story or essay and a sweet treat. Out first selection is Neil Gaiman's essay, "Why Our Future Depends on Libraries, Reading and Daydreaming." Email library@concordnh.gov to request a copy or for more information.
