One Arrested After Criminal Threatening Incident at Concord High School

Police: one student allegedly threatened another with a firearm. No one hurt after police lock down school.

CONCORD, N.H. – Police officers evacuated Concord High School Tuesday night for a report of a student with a gun, the intense lockdown ending with the arrest of an 18-year-old student for alleged criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

UPDATE: Police allege teenage girl "lied" about threat charge

UPDATE: Police: "This was all a fabrication"

A surreal scene quickly unfolded as SWAT teams descended on the campus and there were reports of students with blood on their faces – possibly for a zombie play or movie. Among students at the high school at the time, there were some students, dressed in full costume and make-up, filming a movie for an upcoming film festival, according to Principal Gene Connolly.

Concord Police Lt. John Thomas said no injuries were reported and the incident is still under investigation.

The building was thoroughly searched and school classes resume as usual May 1, Connolly said in a statement on the school's website.

Police were called to the scene at little past 7:35 p.m. for a report of a student allegedly threatening another student with a gun. They quickly cordoned all the streets around the school with yellow tape and police cruisers, which were stretched to a block and half southeast of the school, from Warren Street to the school’s off-street parking lot, near North Washington Street.

A SWAT team was called in as well as the New Hampshire State Police, Bow and Dunbarton police departments, with a small command center set up in the school’s off-site parking lot. The Concord Fire Department had a rescue team stationed at Memorial Field, just off the school site, to assist if needed.

According to officers speaking over the police scanner, the building was put on lockdown around 8:30 p.m. Officers entered the building and quickly evacuated students participating in afterschool activities and students who were rehearsing as zombies for a play or movie. A number of officers parked on Liberty Street and approached and searched the areas between Liberty and Warren streets.

Police did not comment immediately about the situation. Chief John Duval simply stated that there was a “very serious” incident underway. Other officers reported over the scanner that they were looking to talk to school officials about a potential suspect who was a student at the school.

At a few minutes before 9 p.m., officers reported that a suspect was in custody. School Superintendent Chris Rath and Principal Connolly toured the school with police not long after that.

The suspect, whose name was not released April 30, was arrested off campus near the school. Police did not release the location of the arrest or any specific information about the incident.

Initial reports from witnesses emailing Patch and posting notes on Facebook stated that it was a potential hostage situation and that there was some concern that people were injured and had bloody faces. It turned out to be the makeup on the actors in the zombie play as they were leaving the building.

According to Connolly's statement, "At the time of the call a number of events were taking place at the school including: play practice, Freeze Band practice, Lakes Region Culinary classes and the arrival of the girl's lacrosse bus. In addition a small group of students, in full costume and makeup, were filming a movie for the upcoming film festival."

You got that right!

What world are you living in??? Are you for real???
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 02:22 AM
No one even really knows what's going on. It could be all a misunderstanding. Jeez
Rose M.Vermette May 01, 2013 at 02:34 AM
will they make our children go to school tomorrow endangering them from this or will they think of their safety and keep them home ?
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 02:37 AM
ENDANGERING THEM???? No one even knows yet what actually happened. Get a GRIP.
Rose M.Vermette May 01, 2013 at 02:45 AM

JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 02:48 AM
Gentle Giant, I guess what you saw might be related to the High School incident
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 02:59 AM
I have two Nieces that go to that School.and many friends have kids that go there too.. Instead of waiting to get the whole story you jumped to a conclusion that was proven to be false. .

Everyone is understandably nervous but until there's more FACTUAL information, it's better for all concerned to just listen to the news and wait for those in the know to offer updates. All this speculation without basis in fact serves no purpose other than to get everyone all worked up.
Shamconstant May 01, 2013 at 03:29 AM
I have a son that is a senior at CHS. We dicussed this situation, as well as the zombie movie filming possiblity. With all the negative & serious situations going on in this world & close to home..........Ms. Vermette, u really DO need to get a grip, STOP assuming, and just listen to ALL the facts as they progress instead of installing more drama into our young adults minds! SERIOUSLY!
freedomofspeech May 01, 2013 at 04:22 AM
What is wrong with you people. This kid had bad intentions of killing a girl he held a gun to her head. I have 3 kids that go to that school, but won't be going tomorrow. People have every right to worry about there kids and not be told they are wrong for it. This kid has a very sick photo he updated prior to this zombie event. He is arrested and this is real.
TBP May 01, 2013 at 04:35 AM
@freedomofspeech -- when the above posts were made, there was little information available. There was no mention of an arrest or a suspect. The ONLY information posted was that there was a serious event at the high school. Everyone was jumping to conclusions before anything was known.
John Doe May 01, 2013 at 05:02 AM
@Freedom: F*** You! That kid was a very good friend of mine, he lived within four hundred feet on the same street as me and until YOU know his background, keep the hell quiet. He was an amazing kid with a very, very harsh upbringing and to be honest, it doesn't sound like you know a damn thing about what it may be like for him. I knew him better than 99% of others, like I said: Keep quiet.

I’m glad my kids are all grown up, but I DO WORRY ABOUT MY GRANDKIDS. (Three out of four of them are preparing for College.) Things have changed from when I went to school back in the 60’s….and not for the better! I wish all you parents and your children well. It IS a scary world we are forced to live in!

Two observations, mostly for the benefit of "freedomofspeech" (who very much likes guns): 1. I wonder where this young man got his gun? 2. It's a good thing that it was the *POLICE* that responded rather than one of "freedomofspeech's" "good guys with a gun". The police apparently correctly controlled and resolved the situation whereas had a "good guy with a gun": responded, we might have had multiple deaths.
JWP May 01, 2013 at 12:49 PM
I agree with those who stated that many people were jumping to conclusions and making rash decisions before all the facts were known. We now know that the situation was resolved and the school should be perfectly safe today. If the situation hadn't been resolved you can be sure classes would have been cancelled today. People need to sit tight and wait for the updates to come out - easier said than done, but nothing is gained from jumping to conclusions and making decisions prematurely.
Yoda May 01, 2013 at 01:12 PM
No threat. No gun. Boy released, no charges. The girl made it up.
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 01:15 PM
Atlant, REALLY!!!!! You find it necessary to be an ALARMIST???? with your following statement >" It's a good thing that it was the *POLICE* that responded rather than one of "freedomofspeech's" "good guys with a gun". The police apparently correctly controlled and resolved the situation whereas had a "good guy with a gun": responded, we might have had multiple deaths" There are a whole host of things that could have happened but most importantly they didn't. Projecting your un-needed opinion on what could have happened serves no purpose. whatsoever. This truly is one of your top 10 most PATHETIC post's of all time. You should be very proud of yourself.
Justin Paul May 01, 2013 at 01:28 PM
are you serious?
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 01:29 PM
If this turns out to be in fact true. Then I hope SHE IS CHARGED with filing a false report of a crime and is made to pay in full for the Police response. I guess we will have to wait and see.
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 01:41 PM
I guess you should have waited to get the OFFICIAL story, instead of relying on unfounded rumors. This just goes to show what paranoia can do to people.
Yoda May 01, 2013 at 01:52 PM
Police are investigating her involvement.
Apljak May 01, 2013 at 05:51 PM
Sad to say but it seems that the anti-gunners are somewhat disappointed that they didn't have another incident to exploit...now they will console the poor girl who made the outrageous and illegal claim! It is the same crazed political insanity that similarly was hoping for some "Right-wing Nut-job" to be behind the Marathon bombing. Anything to help advance their agenda but little to do to help further effective legislation.
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 08:03 PM
You hit the nail squarely on the head with that statement Apljak Where is Atlant? He made one foolish comment and then disappeared. Just like the spineless amoeba he is.
Apljak May 01, 2013 at 08:06 PM
JPF36, I assume he is still trying to see where the 18 year old got the gun that never was I guess...
Brian Blackden May 01, 2013 at 08:53 PM
Lets hope the legislature doesn't use this rumor logic while creating law...
JPF36 May 01, 2013 at 08:56 PM
ATLANT, NICE OVER REACTION before the investigation was even complete. >"Atlant Schmidt 8:14 am on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 Two observations, mostly for the benefit of "freedomofspeech" (who very much likes guns): 1. Seeing how there WASN'T A GUN when will you be making your APOLOGY????? You truly SCARE ME. Your Rants are off base and without FACT. You should be proud of yourself Mr Atlant Schmidt aKa SCISSORHANDS
Lisa J. Gifford May 02, 2013 at 01:23 AM
So ya, the girl made it up, there was no gun, and the swat team was there for nothing. I hope her parents have to pay the state back and learn to pay attention to their daughter, she obviously isn't getting any attention at home.
