Truck Keys Down a Sewer Drain Leads to Arrests

Concord Police allege the fighting, assault occurred in Penacook.

Two residents are facing charges after a late morning incident last month near the Village Street road construction site in Penacook.

Devin Austin Michael Kitson, 18, of Penacook, was arrested at 10:47 a.m. on Oct. 23, and charged with obstructing government administration and resisting arrest or detention. Bonita Lynn Kitson, 42, also of Penacook, was arrested at 11:27 a.m. on Oct. 23, and charged with attempted simple assault (personal weapons) and resisting arrest or detention.

Officers were called to a construction site on Village Street in Penacook for a report of a GMC Sierra pickup parked in the road and people arguing.

According to the report, one person, Bonita Kitson, alleged that another woman forced the truck into park, yanked the keys out of the ignition, and tossed the keys in a sewer drain. Another person, who was reportedly driving the truck, confirmed the action by the woman. But the woman had left the scene.

After talking to the witnesses, the other woman came back and alleged that her truck was being stolen.

While speaking with the officers, Bonita Kitson allegedly started yelling at the woman. An officer requested that she stop but she allegedly continued to yell at the woman. When advised that she might be arrested if she didn’t stop yelling and interfering, Bonita Kitson allegedly screamed, “Go ahead and arrest me,” while continuing to argue with the officer and heading into an apartment.

The officer followed the woman into the apartment and requested that she let him investigate the issue but she allegedly continued to yell at the officer. The officer left the apartment and Bonita Kitson allegedly threw a baby Exersaucer at the officer.

“The Exersaucer did not strike me,” the officer reported, adding that it landed a few inches behind the back of his feet.

The officer re-entered the apartment to arrest Bonita Kitson and she allegedly pulled away but later, the officer was able to get her into cuffs.

After trying to take her out of the apartment, Devin Kitson allegedly “stepped into the doorway and blocked it with his body” in an effort to keep her from being taken from the apartment, the officer alleged.

The officer pushed Devin Kitson out of the doorway and other officers came to the door to assist. He was also arrested and charged.

Both were released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and arraigned earlier this week.
