Retailer Charged for Melting Gold

Concord Police file charge against owner of Naser Diamonds.

The owner of Naser Diamonds on Loudon Road is facing an ordinance violation after allegedly melting stolen gold jewelry.

Tony Naser, 45, of Concord, received a summons at 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 17, on a generic city ordinance violation.

According to a Concord Police report, back on Oct. 14, an officer was dispatched to Duke Lane for a report of a burglary where jewelry had been stolen. Another report was issued from the neighborhood and police had a potential suspect on Oct. 23.

The suspect’s name was run through a database and the name came up as having pawned jewelry at the Naser Diamonds location on Loudon Road, according to the report.

The officer investigating the incident reached out to Naser, since city ordinances require a pawnshop to hold all sales for 14 days and it had only been nine days. Naser allegedly told the officer that the jewelry had been sent to the store’s Bedford location and had already been melted.

Naser was later served with a summons for melting the gold too early in the pawning process, a violation of a city ordinance. He was due to be arraigned in court on Dec. 16, according to the report.
