Police: Cinder Block Thrown Off Building, Smashes Bus Shelter

Investigators are looking for information about reckless conduct incident at North Main and Park streets early this morning.

The Concord Police Department is asking the public for their assistance in solving an act of Reckless Conduct.

On May 14, 2014 at approximately 0745 a Concord Officer responded to the corner of North Main Street and Park Street for a report of damage to a City bus stop.

Upon arrival the officer noted damage to the roof of the bus stop shelter. It appeared that someone had thrown a concrete cinder block through the north-side of the roof, breaking the plastic covering.  The cinder block appeared to have travelled through the roof, damaging the shelter’s frame as well as the one of the two benches located inside the shelter.

While at the scene, officers made contact with an adult male who reported to have been sleeping on the bench when the damage occurred. The victim reported that at some point between 3:00 and 3:30 AM he was sleeping on the bench located on the southern portion of the shelter when he was awoken by a large crashing sound. The male subject told officers that he had not sustained an injury however his jacket and blanket were covered in pieces of concrete debris.

An investigation revealed that the suspect or suspects either dropped or threw the cinder block off the roof of 4 Park Street, which is located at the corner of North Main Street and Park Street.

Police believe that the suspect(s) accessed the roof from the building’s fire escape. Police believe that there could have been as many as 3 individuals on the roof, with one of the three possibly being a female. It is also believed that at least one of the three suspects was barefoot.

Police have recovered evidence and are asking members of the public to contact them if they have any information about the incident.
