NH State Police Make 1,100 Stops During Bike Week

One fatal accident reported, according to officials.

Bike Week 2014 is officially in the books and New Hampshire State Police are now analyzing their enforcement efforts during its 2014 Laconia Motorcycle Week Traffic Enforcement Initiative, which ran from June 13, to June 22.

According to New Hampshire State Police Director Colonel Robert Quinn, troopers made 1,097 traffic stops and issued 262 citations for speeding. Another 591 warnings were also issued, along with 72 citations. Six were for driving after suspension.

Troopers also arrested 34 people, including 19 for driving while intoxicated.

“The State Police regret to announce that there was one fatal motorcycle crash in the area of the rally,” Quinn said in a press statement, “but want to thank all those who travelled safely and courteously.”

Quinn noted that “responsible citizens reporting unsafe and erratic operation” by calling police led to “erratic and impaired operators” being taken off Granite State highways.

“The men and women of the State Police appreciate the public’s assistance in removing impaired drivers from our roadways,” he said. “The New Hampshire State Police are committed to ensuring safe travel throughout the state and will continue our efforts to reduce traffic collisions in the upcoming summer season.”
