Mom Allegedly Busted with Heroin, Other Drugs

Concord Police charge Derry woman with numerous felonies.

A local woman is facing charges after an incident in a bathroom at a South Main Street coffee shop.

Bethany L. Menton, 26, of Derry, was arrested at 9:35 p.m. on Nov. 4, on charged with four counts of possession of controlled drugs, three felonies, and driving after revocation or suspension.

Officers were called to the Dunkin’ Donuts on South Main Street near the Bow line to check on the welfare of a woman and a baby, according to an arrest report. An employee at the store issued the request, noting that the two had been in the bathroom for about an hour.

As officers approached the bathroom, a woman walked out with her baby in tow, in a car seat. The woman, later identified as Menton, said she had walked to Dunkin’ to get a coffee from her boyfriend’s house on Broadway and while there, her baby fell asleep. Menton reportedly said when the employee knocked on the door to let her know if anyone else needed the bathroom.

“Bethany was acting very defensive and jittery,” the officer alleged, and “remained adamant that she had not been doing anything illegal in the bathroom.”

Menton reportedly said she was in the bathroom for about 30 minutes.

A sergeant arrived at the scene and joined in the questioning, and an allegation was made that she might be using drugs. Menton allegedly denied the allegation, while growing “extremely apprehensive” and reaching into her purse.

Later, Menton reportedly consented to a search of her purse and officers allegedly found an Altoids can with marijuana, a small marijuana cigarette, and aluminum foil with burnt black residue on it.

Another officer reached out to Menton’s boyfriend who said she hadn’t been there in almost a week.

An officer checked the video footage of the store and alleged that Menton had been in the bathroom for 53 minutes.

Menton was arrested while a family member came to pick the baby up.

During processing, officers allegedly found two pairs of scissors, a lighter, straws, a grater, pills later confirmed to be Suboxone, and a small baggie of heroin.

The foil in the tin, according to police, was also burnt heroin.

Menton was released on $40,000 personal recognizance bail and is due in court on Dec. 16.
