Man Dies in I-93 Motorcycle Crash

Accident occurred on May 18, just north of Exit 17 in Canterbury.

The New Hampshire State Police are investigating a motorcycle accident earlier today on I-93 South, near Exit 17, in Canterbury. 

At around 1:42 p.m. on May 18, state troopers and Canterbury Fire and Rescue teams were called to the crash, just north of Concord, where a man driving a Ducati motorcycle reportedly drove off the right side of Interstate and into some trees. 

The driver, who was 57, was transported to Concord Hospital and later, pronounced dead, due to severe head injuries, according to police.

"(The) investigation revealed a motorcyclist was traveling south when he went off the right side of the roadway, striking several trees," according to Sgt. Maurice Sampson. "The name of the operator is being withheld until extended family members have been notified."

Several witnesses to the crash stated that it appeared as if a medical condition may have contributed to the crash. The driver was wearing a helmet and "appropriate protective gear," according to police.

State Police are asking anyone who may have been on the road at the time and seen something happen before the crash to call Trooper First Class Eric Shirley of New Hampshire State Police, Troop D, out of Concord, at 603-271-1162.
