Former Concord Teacher Dies in Motorcycle Crash

The Concord community is mourning the loss of a beloved former schoolteacher tonight who was struck and killed by a car while riding his motorcycle in Allenstown.

Michael Phelps, 66, of Allenstown, was struck at the intersection of Allenstown Road and School Street at around 7:40 a.m. on June 30. He was traveling east on a 2005 Honda VTX motorcycle and was making a left hand turn, according to police, to drive northbound onto Allenstown Road. He was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries and later, passed away.

Phelps taught at both Rundlett Middle School (then called Rundlett Junior High School) and Concord High School.

According to New Hampshire State Police and Allenstown Police, the departments investigating the accident, Jordan Heath, 22, of Concord, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus when she allegedly struck Phelps.

“The initial investigation revealed that the operator of the Ford Focus was distracted at the time, and traveled through the red traffic light at the intersection of Allenstown Road / School Street striking the Honda VTX,” according to a press statement. “Heath was not injured in the crash.”

Investigators say that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident but the crash remains under investigation.
