Concord Teen in Trouble Again

Police allege Juan Batista was passed out on the Rumford Elementary School grounds.

A local teen was arrested last month on drug and breach of bail charges after being found on Thorndike Street in the South End.

Juan Batista, 19, of Concord, was arrested at 10:55 a.m. on Oct. 2, and charged with possession of controlled drugs and default or breach of bail conditions.

An officer pulled into the parking lot of the Rumford Elementary School on Thorndike Street and observed a person who appeared to be asleep or passed out on the main steps, according to an arrest report.

The officer got out of the cruiser and walked up to the man whose “head was down in his lap with his hands by his face and he was holding a book of matches.” Next to him, the officer alleged, were green vegetative matter, a piece of a cigar, incense, a pack of cigarettes, a loose cigarette, and grape flavored tobacco products.

The officer tried to arouse the man and it took a couple of times before he picked up his head, the officer alleged.

The man, Batista, reportedly told the officer he had been smoking “spice” and wasn’t doing anything illegal.

A check of Batista yielded an arrest warrant and he was taken into custody.

Batista allegedly told the officer that he was on pre-trial services but hadn’t been checking in. Later, the officer confirmed this after receiving a non-compliance report, and he was charged with breach of bail too.

Batista was held and arraigned on Oct. 3.

According to previous arrest reports, Batista was arrested in August and charged with charged with unlawful possession of alcohol and default or breach of bail conditions, after police allegedly found him walking around and having difficult maintaining his balance due to alleged alcohol usage. He was 18 at the time of that arrest, according to the report.

In June, Batista was also arrested for an alcohol charge and resisting arrest after allegedly being extremely intoxicated outside a Pleasant Street apartment building.
