Concord Man Arrested Again

Police allege that Brandon Gilligan stole beers at Cumbies on North Main Street.

The troubles for one Concord man continue after he was arrested at the Cumberland Farms on North Main Street last month, allegedly attempting to steal beer.

Brandon John Gilligan, 25, of Concord, was arrested at 6:34 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2013, and charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, resisting arrest, and default or breach of bail conditions.

According to arrest and court documents, officers were called to the store a little after 6:15 a.m. for a shoplifter in custody.

The reporting officer immediately identified Gilligan from prior incidents as the alleged perp. An employee and a customer were reportedly holding him on the floor of the store.

“Gilligan was screaming and swearing,” the officer reported.

Gilligan was placed in handcuffs and placed into a cruiser while the incident was investigated.

According to a store employee, Gilligan selected two Natty Daddy 24-ounce beers, valued at $3.58, from a cooler and allegedly concealed them in his backpack. Gilligan then allegedly left the store without paying for the beer.

The employee exited the store and confronted Gilligan about the beer and requested that he stay until the police arrived. Gilligan allegedly attempted to flee, “at which time (the employee) took hold of Gilligan to detain him,” the reported stated. Gilligan allegedly struggled with the clerk and a customer, noticing what was going on, helped to bring him under control and into the store.

The store clerk alleged that Gilligan didn’t zip up his backpack and “the beers were in plain view.”

The reporting officer went back to the cruiser to talk to Gilligan and he allegedly "continued to scream and yell. Every time we would attempt to get his side of the story he would scream, 'Just shoot me already.'" Gilligan allegedly head-butted the cruiser window and the rear divider, and officers attempted to restrain him and keep him from injuring himself, according to the report. However, he allegedly continued to smash his head into the cruiser and later, the ground, after being taken out of the cruiser.

“While on the ground he continued to head butt the pavement saying, ‘I’m going to resist until you shoot me,’” the officer alleged.

Gilligan was later hobbled, placed in a spit hood, and physically controlled during transport. He refused bail verbally during transport to police headquarters and was instead, directly taken to Merrimack County Jail. Gilligan was arraigned on Dec. 9.

A default of bail charge was later added, since Gilligan was out on bail from a previous alleged incident attempting to steal beer from the Hess station on North Main Street in November 2013, and a criminal trespass incident on Union Street that same month
