Concord Man Allegedly Tries to Break Into Woman’s Apartment

Police: Glenn Merrill reportedly reached into her bedroom window and grabbed the woman.

A Concord man with a history of run-ins with police was arrested again last month after allegedly trying to break-in to a woman’s apartment.

Glenn Alan Merrill, 43, of Concord, was arrested at 3:40 a.m. on July 6, and charged with simple assault (personal weapons), criminal trespass, and default or breach of bail conditions.

Officers were called to Tremont Street for a report of a man trying to enter a residence, according to a Concord Police arrest report. A woman said she believed the man was her ex-boyfriend trying to break-in. Dispatch later advised that the man was able to get into the residence and the dispatcher reported being able to hear a male voice in the background of the phone call. An officer later detained Merrill outside the residence.

The woman told officers that she and Merrill had been dating off and on for five years. Both were at The Purple Pit on Pleasant Street Extension earlier in the evening and Merrill was allegedly “highly intoxicated” when they left. She reportedly took a taxi home alone but Merrill allegedly texted her, requesting to come over. The woman showed an officer the text messages in which she told Merrill he was not welcome and that the doors were locked tight. Merrill allegedly was then outside her apartment, according to the report.

The woman went to bed and Merrill allegedly reached into her bedroom window, through panes between an air conditioner, and grabbed her arm, waking her up, according to police. The woman alleged that she went to tell her neighbors there might be a problem and when she went to the front door, Merrill allegedly entered the apartment.

Officers then arrested Merrill.

According to a report, Merrill had been arrested on June 24, on a driving charge, so the default of bail charge was added to the charges. He was also arrested in November 2012 on Tremont Street and was arrested on driving charges in March

Merrill was held on $10,000 cash bail and arraigned on July 8.
