Bike Auction Raises Money
Concord Contemporary Club to use funds for bicycle, pedestrian safety; other programs.
The along with the Concord Contemporary Club held a bike auction last week at the , raising hundreds of dollars for various education and appreciation programs in the .
The annual event clears out a slew of confiscated bicycles that have been collected by the police during the previous year. The department has the sale to “just get rid of them,” stated Community Resource Officer .
Anita Arbo of the Concord Contemporary Club said there were almost 90 bikes sold. In past years, the bike auction would fetch between $200 and $1,500, depending on the value of the bikes.

“In past years, we’ve had some really nice bikes go for $400 or $500,” she said.
The funds raised this year will pay for bicycle and pedestrian safety education efforts, funding National Night Out, and also a bus driver and crossing guard appreciation event, Arbo said.

At the auction, about 40 people bid on a number of bikes ranging in price from a few dollars to about $35. Some of the bikes were in pretty rough shape; others just needed some minor repairs and a bit of tender loving care.
