So, this week we got another look at Scott Brown, the former Senator from Massachusetts. It wasn’t a pretty sight. Paul Lewis, the Washington reporter from The Guardian newspaper, approached Brown in a North Conway restaurant and attempted to ask him a question about the Hobby Lobby decision. After a nervous minute or two, Brown got up and fled into the boy’s room, refusing to emerge until Lewis had left the restaurant for the parking lot. For those who want to read the rest of Lewis’ article, with it's tale of political timidity, the work is readily available on The Guardian web page.
Meanwhile, here in New Hampshire, somebody needs to explain to candidate Brown that if he wants to run for Senate from his newly discovered home state (newly discovered by him, that is) he’s gonna’ have to man up and answer appropriate questions posed by reporters. The image of a prospective Senator from the Granite State hightailing it into a restroom at the approach of a reporter from an English newspaper isn’t going to go down well here in NH. After all, the State motto does carry with it just a hint of “we don't back down.” I mean, in some of our eateries the restrooms are designed for single occupancy. What’s Brown gonna’ do, bang on the door?
