Oh No, Not Here Too!

I took some solace in the fact that when Deadbeat Rancher Cliven Bundy revealed to the world his thoughts about the “The Negro”, he did so many hundreds of miles to the West.  I could feel secure that while he was clearly a racist nut case, Bundy was not a local kind of guy that I might bump into on my way through the Lakes Region.

So you can imagine my dismay when I read about Robert Copeland of Wolfeboro, one of the elected Police Commissioners from that town, who allegedly used the “N” word when speaking of the President of the United States.  I gather he admits to using the racial slur, and refuses to apologize or revoke his use of the word.

This is an example of what happens when angry and unpleasant people are allowed to say stupid and offensive things without being called on it.  Mister Copeland should be called on what he said. So here goes: Listen up! It is improper to use the “N” word in any context, particularly if you are white and speaking about the President of the United States.  Don’t do it!

Mr. Copeland has done a real disservice to the state of New Hampshire and to the good people of his hometown.  I bet a number of them voted for him in the last election, and now wish they could tear up the ballot they cast. They’re probably rooting around in a trash barrel behind town hall looking for the discarded ballots.

Maybe Copeland will do the right thing.  Now would be a good time for him to stand up in the town square, admit to being a stupid thoughtless jerk, and resign from his office.  That would be good.
