OPED: Concord Redistricting Plan Unfair

Plan doesn't seem very well thought out or very fair to voters or candidates.

The City of Concord has finished its redistricting discussions. A lot of folks don't really realize how this will affect them.

I invite them to go to the city of Concord website and take a look at ward maps. Because Concord will be voting on the redistricting map at the same time as city elections, it is very possible voters will be unable to vote on the city councilor who will actually be representing them during the next two years.

It is also very possible that someone can file to run for office in one ward, and because the ward line moves (though not their domicile), under city charter, because elected officials must live in the ward they represent, will be unable to serve, if elected.

Kris MacNeil is a former candidate for state Senate. She currently lives in Ward 3 but will redistricted into Ward 4, if the city's plan is approved by voters in November.
