NH Citizens Alliance for Action Says ‘Shame on Senator Bragdon!’

Senator Bragdon led today’s charge against New Hampshire’s low wage workers without having attended the bill hearing. NH Citizens Alliance for Action and thousands of Granite Staters are disappointed by the Senate Finance Committee’s swift 4-2 vote to ITL HB 1403—a bill that seeks to raise New Hampshire’s minimum wage to $9.00 over two years.

NHCAA Executive Director Kary Jencks released the following statement:

“The working people of New Hampshire need a fair wage—not a government hand out. Reinstating and raising a state minimum wage would help to achieve that goal. Unfortunately for the state’s nearly 76,000 low wage workers, today the Republican Senate Finance Committee members followed the lead of Senator Peter Bragdon when he made the motion to ITL HB 1403—even though he failed to attend the bill’s hearing last week.

Minimum wage earners are our friends, our neighbors, our colleagues, and our community members. They need this raise now to put food on the table and heating oil in the tank next winter. A family can’t make ends meet on $15,080 a year. Raising the minimum wage would help all of us by boosting New Hampshire’s economy and building stronger communities.  Senator Bragdon and his Republican colleagues on the Senate Finance Committee have let us all down by voting to deny hardworking Granite Staters their well earned raise.”
