A group from New Hampshire is planning to travel to the Dominican Republic this winter to help build two or more homes for families living in poverty.

A group of 16 adults and teens from New Hampshire and Maine will work together to make this a reality, according to the GoFundMe.com page. Patch has partnered with GoFundMe and is helping to highlight worthy campaigns in local communities.

In just three days, six people have already donated $7,900. The goal is $10,000.

From the page:

We are headed back to the Dominican Republic this winter to build two houses (or more) for two different families living in complete poverty.

Facts-

  • Each cinder block house cost $5000.00 to build
  • We have raised enough money for House # 1.
  • Each house takes about three weeks to build
  • We have hand selected each family and have a relationship with them from our last trip.
  • The current conditions of both homes are deplorable. Dirt floors, unsanitary conditions.
  • Construction will begin prior to our visit on house #1 and our group will finish house #1 while we are there and start house #2 during the same week.
  • A group of 16 adults and teens from New Hampshire and Maine will be working together to make this a reality. We still need to raise money for Marcelena's Home Facts
  • The build will take place the week of February 22, 2013.
