Anniversary Weekend Faculty Concert: A Bach Birthday Bash

Join the Concord Community Music School as it celebrates its annual Anniversary Weekend through faculty and student performances. The weekend begins with a concert on Friday, March 21st at 7:30 p.m. featuring members of our faculty, known as the Musicians of Wall Street:

About the artists:

Andrea Veal holds a master of arts in music history and a bachelor of arts in vocal performance from the University of New Hampshire. Opera roles include Serpina in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona and Una della Ingrate in Monteverdi’s Il Ballo della Ingrata. She can be heard singing Rameau’s “Rossignols amoureux” on the Dünya label’s CD, The Language of Birds. She is the soloist at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Portsmouth, NH. In addition to her performance activities, Ms. Veal directs the Andrea Veal Voice Studio in Rochester, New Hampshire, and is on the faculties of Concord Community Music School and UNH’s Summer Youth Music School. She is the president of the Granite State Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Emily Jaworski, soprano, has been turning heads throughout New England since completing her Master’s Degree in 2005.  In October 2006, she made her professional role debut with Granite State Opera as Mercedes in Bizet’s Carmen, a performance for which she earned critical praise for her “good stage presence, solid acting prowess and pleasing vocal ability” (OperaOnline).  Other recent engagements include appearances with Longwood Opera in their Summer Concert Series, with the Manchester-based vocal ensemble Belle Voci, and with Boston Opera Project in their productions of Little Women and Regina. 

Ms. Jaworski earned the Master of Music degree in voice performance from Boston University, where she was featured in scenes from Handel’s Alcina, Blitzstein’s Regina, and Haydn’s Il Mondo Della Luna.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, where she appeared as The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, as well as performing the soprano solos in Brückner’s Te Deum and Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G Minor.

In addition to her teaching at the Music School, Miss Jaworski teaches music at John Stark Regional High School in Weare, and is the musical director for Hillcat Summer Theatre in Hillsborough. 

Stefani Burk, oboe, received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in oboe performance from the University of Iowa. A member of the Portland Symphony since 1982, she has also performed with most of the orchestras of northern New England, most recently with Portland's PORT Opera, the White Mountain Bach Festival, the NH Music Festival, the Hanover Chamber Orchestra, Kalistos Chamber Orchestra, and the Atlantic Chamber Orchestra. Recent concerto performances include Bach's Oboe D'Amore Concerto and his Concerto for Oboe and Violin. She has been a frequent participant in chamber music concerts, including those of the Musicians of Wall Street, the NH Music Festival, Yellow Barn, Sebago-Long Lake, and Classicopia. Her free-lance playing has included everything from Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) and Anne Murray concerts to performing the Brahms Requiem with the Dartmouth Glee Club Alumni at Carnegie Hall.   She is currently teaching at St. Paul's School and CCMS, where she teaches oboe, coaches ensembles, including the Scholarship Woodwind Quintet, and is Wind Department Chair. A native of Iowa, she has studied privately with Fred Cohen and was formerly on the faculties of Bates and Bowdoin Colleges, as well as SYMS (UNH Summer Music Program).
Matthew Laughlin, cello, earned a B.M. in cello performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, and an M.A. in Music at UNH. He has studied with Emilio Colon, Emmanuel Feldman, Larry Veal and Terry King and has played in master classes for Yo-Yo Ma, Janos Starker and Paul Katz. He has played chamber music throughout the northeast and performed with the Vermont Symphony, Nashua Symphony, Granite State Symphony and the Manhattan Symphony, on a recent tour of China. Matthew currently teaches at the Concord Community Music School, the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center, serves as the principal orchestra mentor for the Gordon College Orchestra, is on cello faculty at University of New Hampshire’s Summer Youth Music School and is the associate principal of the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra.

Abigail Charbeneau, piano, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Skidmore College, and a master of music in piano performance and piano pedagogy from the University of Illinois.  She has studied with Pola Baytelman, William Heiles, Arkady Aronov, Adaleina Krivosheina, Kenneth Drake, and Reid Alexander, and has been on the faculty of Millikin University and the University of Illinois.  Abigail teaches at St. Paul’s School and the Concord Community Music School.

Tom Robinson, piano, received a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio.  He has studied saxophone with Michael Cox, and piano with Mark Flugge and Joe Hunter. He was selected for Ohio Music Educator's All-State College Jazz Ensemble in 1992-1993. Tom performs throughout New England as a sideman with several jazz groups as well as leading and writing for his own trio.  Tom currently teaches at the Concord Community Music School.

Scott Kiefner, bass, is a recent alumni of the Music School’s Scholarship Jazz Ensemble, an honors ensemble open by competitive audition. Scott attended the Music School from a very young age as a piano student and later as a serious bass student; he graduated with a music performance degree from McGill University in Montreal.  Scott regularly performs professionally throughout New England and in Montreal.

Tim Gilmore, percussion, received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Ed/Music from Salem State College and studied further in composition and performance programs at Berklee College of Music. He is a member of the Harry Skoler Jazz Quartet with Brownstone Recording Artists and has performed with such groups as the Cape Ann Symphony, the Symphony by the Sea, the Paul Madore Chorale, the Boston Percussion Ensemble and the Cambridge Harmonic Orchestra. He has also performed with Lester Bowie, Marion McPartland, Tower of Power, Tiger Okoshi, and Warren Vache. Some of his recordings include “A Work of Heart,” “Reflections on the Art of Swing” and “Conversations in the Language of Jazz” on Brownstone Records.  Tim is also on the Concord Community Music School faculty.
